CIRCA Projects presents the touring programme of the Film London Jarman Award for the third consecutive year.  Following presentations at CIRCA Screen and The Northern Charter in 2011 and 2012 respectively, this year’s event, works in partnership with Star and Shadow Cinema to present a special evening profiling work by the ten artists shortlisted for the 2013 Award. We are also delighted to announce that Charlotte Prodger will join us for the evening to discuss her practice in a special Q & A after the screening.

The programme brings together single screen works by each of the shortlist, celebrating a rich and eclectic array of work and offering a comprehensive survey of the work and practice of UK based film and video artists. Presented by Film London in partnership with Channel 4 and the Whitechapel Gallery, The Jarman Award is an annual prize inspired by one of Britain’s most innovative, esteemed and controversial artists of the late 20th century, Derek Jarman. Celebrating the spirit of experimentation, imagination and inspiration in the work of UK artist film-makers, The Jarman Award recognises individual artist film-makers whose risk-taking work resists boundaries and conventional definition – work that encompasses innovation, excellence and vision. The winner of the annual Award not only receives a £10,000 cash prize, they also win a broadcast commission – to produce a series of film artworks for Channel 4. This is the only Award of its kind where an artist is rewarded with both financial assistance to enable them to flourish and the phenomenal opportunity to broadcast their work on national television.
