Working with both volatile and sturdy materials (i.e.: magnets, fluid, steel and video projection) in installation and performance settings, the physical strengths of these mediums are challenged to their breaking point so as to create tension. Materials perform against each other or together, affected by physical phenomena (i.e.: Gravity). Hence, the created installation functions as a “system” or, a “structure”, in which physical elements and phenomena are co-dependent. The fragility of the system is evident: matter coexists in states between order and chaos.

Chooc Ly Tan has recently had solo exhibitions at Carlos/Ishikawa, London and Transmission Gallery, Glasgow. Her multi-disciplinary group, the IMS Project, composed of artists, scientists, curators and a composer, will be in residence at Flat Time House, London, Feb-March 2013.
