An expanded journey into the world of peatland landscapes from the Flow Country to the North Pennines. Layerscape (expanded) will bring together two existing works — Bogman Palmjaguar by Luke Fowler and Layerscape (peat bogs) by Laura Harrington — alongside a live audio visual performance by Laura Harrington and Lee Patterson.
Treading the boundaries of documentary and the real – Layerscape (expanded) will explore the capacity of celluloid and audio field recording to evoke a sense of identity, for a remarkable living, organic site.
Harrington will expand upon footage from her existing film Layerscape (peatbogs) and choose sections of the film that bring the viewer to the recesses of the site through abstraction. Lee Patterson will perform live audio alongside these visuals using field recordings taken on the boglands to create a soundscape which begins to acknowledge the psychology of the space.
This new work, in parallel to “Bogman Palmjaguar”, looks to this seemingly baron but evolving landscape as an alternative place: void of society but impacted by it. A fragile, living environment comparable to the persecuted “Other” and identifiable to some, for this reason.
