CIRCA Projects present a new performance work by Tim Etchells and commissioned by FormContent, London which operates as a departure point and prelude to ‘EXHIBITION’, a group show at Workplace Gallery, Gateshead.
The work, titled ‘It’s moving from I to It – The Play’, takes the form of a touring play, organised by FormContent, which was presented in 2014 at Tate Modern, London, Eastside Projects, Birmingham, Spike Island, Bristol and David Roberts Art Foundation, London. CIRCA Projects present this performance in the hour before the private view of EXHIBITION.
EXHIBITION responds to Etchells’ ideas reflecting upon the position and nature of a host (an institution) and its relationship with invited guests (which could include artists and the audience amongst others).
‘The Play’ raises concerns about authorship, language, and institutional rhetoric. ‘The Play’ uses fiction as a starting point for enquiry. A performance with two actors, Bruno Roubicek and Jennifer Pick, to take place only within a gallery space. The actors negotiate their own situation – actors in a gallery space, performing. They speculate and transform this situation. A tiger enters the room – a subversive force, eventually sucked into rhetoric dispelled by the actors; he becomes a sell-out contestant in a game-show.
