MY PART OF YOUR HOME (13-25 October 2017) is an artists’ intervention by Giles Bailey & CIRCA Projects at the Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead in its centenary year.
A selection of artworks produced in Gateshead will be displayed from 13-25 October within the Shipley’s permanent exhibition, the ‘Saltwell Park Museum Collection’.
MY PART OF YOUR HOME creates a conversation between artists working in Gateshead and the collection’s objects – many of which were made in Gateshead. These artworks are dispersed across the exhibition’s display cabinets and screens. Artists featured in the exhibition include Chris Bate & Sarah Bouttell, Giles Bailey, Jo Coupe, Dan Holdsworth, Jenny Holzer, Allan Hughes & Mark Jackson, Paul Becker, Yoko Ono, Cecilia Stenbom, Peter Todd and Elizabeth Wright.
Inspired by the Shipley’s Saltwell Park Museum exhibition, which juxtaposes objects as diverse as coal produced beneath the ground alongside footage of Primula cheese manufactured in Gateshead. MY PART OF YOUR HOME introduces locally produced art as equally distinct, surprising and enlivening.
A special opening event featuring performance art, sound and contemporary dance, will lead the audience through the Shipley’s gallery spaces over 1 hour. FESTIVAL IS SUDDEN will include artists Bianca Scout, Culver, Giles Bailey, Private Booth,Tess Denman-Cleaver and Victoria Guy. This event is part of TUSK Festival 2017 – an experimental music festival held annually at The Sage, Gateshead & off site locations in Gateshead. Entry is free.
This project owes a debt of thanks to all the artists sharing artworks and live performances, Locus+, Shipley Art Gallery, Gary Malkin, Sarah Bouttell, Sophie Buxton and Rob Smith, TUSK Festival and Michael McHugh.
